A floor-to-ceiling curtain of sculpted and fused clear glass will be on display at the Figge Art Museum beginning Saturday. Landscape: Ingalena Klenell and Beth Lipman is on loan to the Figge from the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington and will be on view in the second floor print gallery.

MVQG: Encore Exhibition

The exhibition features a selection of quilts by MVQG members and showcases the talent and remarkable skills of these area quilters. Last year’s show was held in conjunction with Quilts: Masterworks from the American Folk Art Museum. This year it will be the only quilt-themed exhibition on view.

The Virgin Mary in Art

The exhibition will feature a dozen paintings from the Figge’s permanent collection, including images that focus on Mary’s relationship with the infant Jesus. Visitors will view scenes of Mary nursing the Christ Child, gazing at him in loving contemplation or playing with him. The works celebrate the endless love and compassion of the Virgin for her son and, by extension, for all of humanity.

Tour of Historical Buddha Relics Makes First Visit to Davenport

A world-wide free public exhibit of ancient and sacred relics of the historical Buddha Shakyamuni and other great Buddhist masters from India Tibet, Korea & China will be on display at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport on: Friday, September 6th (Opening Ceremony at 6 pm to 8 pm); Saturday, September 7th (10 am to 7 pm); Sunday, September 8th, (10 am to 5 pm) at the Figge Art Museum 225 West Second Street Davenport, Iowa 52801. Figge to Host Papergirl Quad Cities Exhibition

The Figge Art Museum will be hosting the one-day exhibition Papergirl Quad Cities, which will run from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm on Thursday, July 19th in the Figge’s Lobby. Papergirl Quad Cities will showcase works that will be distributed as part of the Papergirl Quad Cities project. Papergirl collects all kinds of artwork from anywhere to be bundled up and distributed for free by bicycle.

Questionable Architecture Exhibition Opens Saturday
June 1, 2013 | 6:21am

This multi-structure sculptural installation is the inspiration of Quad Cities artist and assistant professor of graphic design at Western Illinois University, Terry Rathje, who conceived of this “Village in the Figge” with the collaboration of designer Monica Correia and artist Steve Banks. The installation explores the interaction of function and form in multiple structures designed digitally or scratch built by hand. Inspired by stupas, pagodas, ziggurats and roadside shrines, these structures are a mix of sculpture and architecture whose fanciful and imaginative designs have a visual impact completely unrelated to their use.
