Ellen Wagener: Horizon Lines

Artist Ellen Wagener takes the quintessential Midwestern landscape—rows of corn receding to the horizon under ever-changing skies—as the starting point for her works. Working in pastel, and often in series and at large scale, Wagener uses sketches, photographs and her memory to create vivid evocations of particular weather patterns and times of day. The exhibition Horizon Lines will feature several new series of work depicting the seasons and the rising sun, as well as earlier works, such as F5 Tornado from the Figge collection.

A native of DeWitt, Iowa, Wagener received her BFA from the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., and now resides in Arizona. Her work has been shown nationwide and is in the collections of the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, Iowa State University, the University of Iowa Museum of Art, the Tucson Museum of Art and the Figge Art Museum.

This exhibition is on display October 3, 2015 - January 24, 2016.

Contributing sponsors: Will Wolf, Xenotronics, Pappas Davidson O’Connor & Fildes, P.C.
