Figge Assistant Curator Vanessa Sage will examine artists whose acts of self-determination changed the course of art. The presentation will explore European and American arts organizations, including the national Academy of Design, the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, and the Royal Academy of Arts, and the crucial tension between the avant-garde and the traditional.
