Born in Chicago, Symons attended the Art Institute in Chicago and later continued his studies in Paris, Munich, and London, developing an impressionist style. His winter landscapes, such as Shimmering Winter, were among his most popular and best known works. In them he portrays spacious areas softened by the fallen snow.
