About

A Time of Malfeasance

A professor in the Fine Art department at the University of Iowa since 1962, Virginia Myers has been exploring the medium of print-making for close to fifty years. In the series A Time of Malfeasance, Myers employs the time-honored intaglio technique of burin engraving and dry-point on copper plates to reflect upon the abuse of political power. Although first conceived in the early 1970’s, the series should not be understood as direct criticism of the Watergate scandal but a more general examination of political wrongdoing.

A Time of Malfeasance is a suite of 21 burin and dry-point prints created in 1974, and will be on display through October 16, 2011 on the second floor of the museum. The works are a recent gift of L. Herbert Tyler.
