Family Fun Day at the Figge
"When Gold Blossoms"
Open to the public with free admission
1-4 pm
This program will introduce families to the rich artistic and cultural traditions of India. Highlights include an interactive dance performance by Sreedevi Nair, a henna tattoo demonstration by Preeti Motwani and a display of traditional Indian costumes presented by Trupti Patel. Enjoy a rich sampling of popular Indian foods and beverages. Then visit the gallery to learn how jewelry functions in Indian society, such as wedding jewelry and jewelry created for kings and temples. Using tooling foil and other materials, participants can design and create their own jewelry inspired by the floral motifs and intricate designs found in the exhibition When Gold Blossoms: Indian Jewelry from the Susan L. Beningson Collection. Education programming is generously sponsored by The Kiran Bavikatte Foundation.
