I am mesmirized by the colors and feel of beads.  I never cease to be amazed at how such a small and simple objects can be combined in ways which can only be described as wondrous.  Manipulating those beautiful little pieces of glass into works of art is the best meditation I know.

My love for stones began at the age of 7 while sifting through boxes of crystals at the local gem show.  As a teenager taking Studio Art classes in high school, my primary focus was on jewelry making.  As an adult, I became a goldsmith and jewelry designer, which allowed me to incorporate stones into pieces of wearable art.  To this day, I am always on the lookout for stones that beg to have their unique qualities showcased in a piece of fine art jewelry.

The forms in these 49 small paintings in one present a range of familiarity for those attending the exhibition.  Some of the jewelry pieces are depicted more than once.  Those with a knowledge of geography may spot the maps of India, one from satellite view.  Shiva's shape is there nine times.  The Taj Mahal's form appears four times.

A camera offers sudden surprises, rewards for studied focus and, somewhere between, reflections of mood in subjects beyond you.  I enjoy close-ups of nature's intimate details, unexpected portraits, and experiments with landscapes and waters.

As an artist, I challenge myself to transform ordinary, inanimate objects into intriquingly colorful and eclectic art pieces.  As a painter, I strive to make each piece come alive through my designs and use of color.  As a humanist, I am inspired by the simplicity of nature's color and form, function of skilled craftmanship, and the complexity of high design.

Creative expression has always been my form of meditation.  I hve been searching for a way to couple my inner experience with the resulting image.  This series of pastels is the closest I have come.  My goal is to immerse myself and the viewer in the image and to utilize art as a spiritual experience.

As an engineer in my earlier life, my livelihood depended on the consistency and predictability of nature, on the real world.  That side of my brain still requires that my art may be readily associative with things that are recognizable.  The less pragmatic side of my brain is busily muddling the vision to challenge a new interpretation of that which appears familiar.
